Tanghalang Pilipino's Batang Mujahideen, is a drama play that tells a story about a kidnapping. There was a young girl raised in a Muslim Yakan community in Mindanao. The story is the scenery of the historic kidnapping of Claret School Tumahubong teachers, students, and priest-director in 2000. This young Muslim girl will be exposed to an act of violence and be dragged into a life of extremist belief and actions herself. According to Director Guelan Varela-Luarca he calls it “documentary theater”, a melding of ‘kasaysayan’ and ‘kathang isip’.

The batang mujahideen have to be disguised as a boy to join the ranks to have revenge from the murderer of his muslim father by the hands of the Christians, this started to have hatred and vengeance to her. This story tells about the children being orphaned, hurt, killed, trained to perpetuate the cycle of violence.

In this stage play that was released last Feb to March 2020, The Tanghalang Pilipino Batang Mujahideen shows social issues currently happening in the Philippines,watching and knowing this stage play is sad because the issues being portrayed in the play is currently happening here in our country. The kidnapping is one of the major issues, are poverty, unemployment, politics, and corruption, unemployment is one of the causes because of not having a job to support the family and survive in everyday expenses, people do illegal things just for the money. In the environment where criminals grew up may also influence their way of living. The result of adapting and learning illegal activities is due to the negative influence of the people from the surroundings.The effects on the kidnapped child are having trauma, fear, lack of trust and more.
